MILWAUKEE — Senior Vice President for the Milwaukee Bucks Alex Lasry has dropped out of the race for U.S. Senate.
Lasry was campaigning against Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes, State Treasurer Sarah Godlewski and Outagamie County Executive Tom Nelson in the Aug. 9 primary election to then face Republican incumbent Ron Johnson in November. Nelson dropped out of the race on Monday and threw his support towards Barnes.
A recent Marquette Law School Poll survey had Lasry making up ground from the previous poll in April to within 4 percentage points behind Barnes. The same survey also had Lasry behind Johnson.
"I am so grateful to Alex for all of the work he’s done to move Wisconsin forward, and I’m proud to have his endorsement,” said Lt. Governor Mandela Barnes, candidate for U.S. Senate. “I deeply admire Alex’s commitment to creating good union jobs and raising wages throughout his career and throughout this campaign, and the work he’s done to bring pride and opportunity to Milwaukee, a city we both love.”
“Throughout this race I have always been proud to call Alex a friend. I look forward to continuing that friendship as we hit the trail. Together, we are going to unite Wisconsinites from every corner of the state to defeat Ron Johnson," Barnes added.
Lasry first announced his candidacy in February 2021.
