TEXAS — For the first time in decades, Texas will see not one, but two presidential candidates in the Lone Star State with just days to go before the election.
Republican nominee Donald Trump announced Thursday he’ll hold a news conference in Austin on Friday. Republican U.S. Senate candidate Ted Cruz will join him as they discuss border security and immigrant crime. Trump will also record a podcast with Joe Rogan as his campaign continues to try to appeal to young men.
Meanwhile, Vice President Kamala Harris will hold a rally in Houston with Cruz’s Democratic challenger, Rep. Colin Allred.
The event is expected to focus on abortion rights and feature an appearance by Houston’s own Beyonce.
Public polling has consistently shown Harris trailing Trump by several percentage points in Texas, while the Cruz-Allred race is tighter.
Many are asking why Harris and Trump would come to a state that’s not considered a battleground this close to the election.
On this week’s “Inside Out” segment, former Texas House Speaker Dennis Bonnen, R-Angleton, and former state Rep. Mark Strama, D-Austin, discussed the political moves by both candidates and what it could mean down ballot.
