TEXAS — In an interview with Spectrum News 1 anchor Dr. Nicole Cross, Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, discussed the now-infamous congressional hearing with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, mental health effects, Texas’ law enforcement response to the pro-Palestinian protests on college campuses, Gov. Greg Abbott pardoning Daniel Perry and her advice to young people on how to deal with bullying and verbal attacks.

Following the viral comments between Greene and Crockett, Crockett touched on her frustrations in that congressional hearing, discussing how she wants to ensure that “other Black women can be supported as they’re running for office.”

Five percent of Congress identifies as Black. Crockett is only one of two members from Texas. She sees a lot of hate in the public eye and admits that she tries not to let it bother her. Crockett says that she looks at being a representative of Congress as a “privilege”.

On the Texas law enforcement response to the pro-Palestinian protests on college campuses around the state, she wants to emphasize that the students taking part are “exercising their constitutional right.” She wants to begin to move in the way of “progression instead of regression.”

For children and teens who may be bullied or dealing with verbal attacks, Crockett had this advice to give: “Haters are always gonna hate but the reality is that if they got time to worry about you that means that you’re doing something right and so wear it as a badge of honor. You have to be able to flip these situations on their head.”

She even took her own advice and mentioned that in the exchange between her and Marjorie Taylor-Greene, she wanted to be smarter and think about the situation she was in, adding that she decided to flip the situation on its head.
