TEXAS — U.S. Senate Democrats quickly tossed out the impeachment articles against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas Wednesday. The move swiftly ended the trial triggered by the House’s narrow vote to impeach in February.

Mayorkas was the first cabinet secretary in nearly 150 years to be impeached. Republicans were adamant that his handling of the border was enough to warrant ousting him, while Democrats said it was a political stunt.

So what will all this mean politically in an election year focused on the border and immigration?

On this week’s “Inside Out” segment, former Texas House Speaker Dennis Bonnen, R-Angleton, and former state Rep. Mark Strama, D-Austin, weighed in on the potential political repercussions of the impeachment.
