DALLAS — Visitors in Deep Ellum will notice a few changes in the neighborhood this weekend.
The Dallas Police Department (DPD) announced it will implement a traffic control plan in Deep Ellum on Friday and Saturday nights to manage pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
The plan includes an "increased police presence, with officers strategically positioned at key locations to control the flow of traffic," according to a news release.
Barricades will be set up at designated intersections to direct traffic starting at 10 p.m.
Deep Ellum is known for its bustling nightlife and eclectic arts scene, but in recent years, it has experienced an uptick in violent incidents, including shootings that left residents and visitors concerned about safety. In 2022, DPD assigned a dedicated unit of police officers to focus on the neighborhood. Since then, the department has enacted street closures during the summer and most holiday weekends.
This comes as Dallas is getting ready for St. Patrick’s Day weekend.
The goal of street closures is to "minimize disruptions to residents, businesses and visitors while prioritizing safety and efficient traffic management," the news release said.
