Brooke Bowman has played just about every sport under the sun.
“I was born into sports,” she said. “Basketball, football, soccer, golf, softball, you name it.”
It wasn’t until August of last year when she was introduced to flag football. Bowman was asked by a friend to play in a random tournament.
“After it ended, I wanted to play more,” Bowman said.
A coach with Texas Fury North, an all-girls select flag football team, connected with Bowman afterward to see if she was interested in trying out for the team.
“It’s been amazing since,” she said.
Bowman has emerged as a top prospect in her short time playing flag football.
The Sachse High School senior joined an elite group of young women at the Under Armour Camp at IMG, where she was chosen as one of the top 50 to play.
Bowman says the sport has changed her plans after high school.
“When I picked up flag football I was like wait, this is a whole other thing,” Bowman said. “I was getting offers, and I never thought this would be possible.”
Bowman hopes to get a degree in criminal justice. She always envisioned herself becoming an FBI agent or a detective. She’s also interested in pursuing something in sports management.
Her number one goal right now is to compete in the 2028 Olympic Games.
“Watching the U.S. women play is a dream for me now and I have a lot of time to practice and train,” she said.
Bowman is slated to play at the U.S. Army All-American Flag Bowl in December. She’ll compete along with 20 of the nation’s top high school All-Americans at the Star in Frisco. Bowman’s also been chosen to play in the 2025 Under Armour Next All-America Girls Flag Football Game in Florida in January.
Bowman’s success has drawn some negativity from her peers. She says she’s been bullied, received messages from students who think they can play better than her and some have even called her posing as college recruiters.
“I really don’t care anymore what they say about me because at this point, I’m getting to where I want to be,” Bowman said.
