DALLAS — Sachse’s Kaliq Lockett started his football career as a running back until a junior-high growth spurt forced a position change.

“I was way too tall to be a running back. I was kind of sad,” Lockett said. “I was like, ‘Mom, Dad, there really ain’t any running backs who are 6-2, 6-3’?”

The position change worked out just fine for the Sachse senior. He’s become one of the best high school receivers in Texas in the Class of 2025.

“Anytime the ball is in the air, it’s mine. You’re gonna have to put two or three people over me. Single coverage doesn’t work on me,” Lockett said.

Lockett said his ball skills are his best attribute. He’s also got a 6-foot-7 wingspan that helps him win contested catches.

“All you gotta do is check the film. I make one-hand catches, two-hand catches, sideline catches, over-the-shoulder catches,” Lockett said. “Just throw the ball in my area and it’s gonna be me coming down with the ball or nobody coming down with the ball.”

Lockett is verbally committed to play in college at the University of Texas next year.
