TEXAS — It’s easy to see why Jason Stokes found football. He was able to watch his big brother play it at the highest level growing up.
“I’ve always loved the game, everything about it,” says Stokes. “I took it to another level of loving when my brother started fulfilling his dreams. I was like, if he can do it, I can do it.”
Stokes saw his brother play in college at Texas A&M and Florida State, before spending time in the NFL with the New York Giants.
“He taught me that no matter how hard it gets, keep working,” says Stokes. “Always keep trying. Give it your best.”
Stokes has followed that advice and turned into a pretty good football player himself. He’s a senior defensive back for Pflugerville Weiss, trying to help the Wolves have a special year in 2024.
“We’re more bought in and if we keep that up we’re a dangerous team,” says Stokes. “The talent is most definitely there. It’s all about us being disciplined and playing the game.”
Stokes’ success on the field the past few seasons allowed him to become a major college recruit. He’s received offers from some of the best schools in the country, but a few months back, he decided to commit to Utah.
“It’s all a dream come true being able to go visit colleges and being treated like VIP,” says Stokes. “The reason I chose Utah is because of the connection with Coach (Sharrieff) Shah and Coach (Xavier) Goldsmith is unbeatable.”
Stokes has dreams of playing in the NFL one day but also wants to study meteorology in college. He’d like to be a storm chaser one day.
