SAN ANTONIO — It wasn’t always about football for Michael Terry III.
“I did taekwondo when I was like 8,” says Terry. “Then I wanted to play football. I started doing that in middle school.”
It became clear pretty early that Terry had a future in football. He made the varsity team at Alamo Heights as a freshman.
“I started seeing I’m better than a lot of other players,” says Terry. “Really, I’m just blessed to be in this position I’m in.”
Over the past three seasons, Terry has helped Alamo Heights in a lot of different ways. He’s played quarterback, receiver and even a little defense. He’s been a big reason the Mules have won more than 10 games each of those seasons and been the district champs. He’s hoping his senior season is even better.
“I want to try and make it as far as we can. We have a really good team,” says Terry. “We could really do that to make it further than we did last year.”
His success at the high school level has helped make him one of the top college prospects in the state of Texas. Terry is considered a 5-star prospect and has offers from some of the biggest programs across the country.
“I’m down to a top 4, I have Nebraska, A&M, Texas and Oregon,” says Terry. “Those are the top ones I like right now.”
He says he’s looking for a college that offers a family atmosphere, a good culture and wants to be around good coaches and good people. No matter what school he chooses, Terry will have his education paid for, and that is one of the things that motivates him the most when putting in the work it takes to be a great football player.
“Being able to not have my parents pay for college and doing something I love, having fun with it,” says Terry.
Terry and Alamo Heights will open the 2024 season on the road at Seguin on Aug. 30.
