DESOTO, Texas — DeSoto's Daylon Singleton has been training to be fast since he was in kindergarten.

"Running hills, flipping tires and running parachutes with my dad," said the Eagles wide receiver. "That's how I became so fast."

His speed was on display throughout his junior season, but especially in the Class 6A, Division 2 state title game. Singleton caught five passes for 136 yards and three touchdowns, including two scores over 50 yards.

"You've got to respect my speed," Singleton said. "If you don't respect it, I'm gonna beat you over the top, and if you try to respect it too much, I'm gonna shut it down.”

Singleton said he and his DeSoto teammates are now focused on a three-peat, which only 19 other programs have achieved in Texas high school football history.

"The culture here is crazy. I love it here. They don't want nothing but greatness for you, and they're gonna push you to be great," Singleton said. "There’s always a target on your back. It’s always pressure all season long. It’s normal to play in December. And if you're not playing in December, it’s below our standards.”

Singleton is currently verbally committed to play in college at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
