During a ceremony on Thursday, it was announced that Dallas’ new professional women’s soccer team will be called Dallas Trinity FC and will play in the old Cotton Bowl Stadium.

The name is a nod to the Trinity River, which runs through Dallas and Fort Worth down to the Houston area.

The team’s logo will be a pegasus, in honor of the famous downtown Dallas landmark locals coined the “Flying Red Horse.” This will be the second professional sports team in Dallas to make the mythological winged horse its logo, with the city’s WNBA team—the Dallas Wings—being the first.

The official colors of the team will be sunrise maroon, prairie gold and live oak green, which “draw inspiration from the city skyline and the Trinity River,” according to a news release from Dallas Trinity FC.

The team will be part of the USL Super League, a new Division I professional women’s soccer league that will kick off in August 2024 with eight teams, including Dallas Trinity FC.

The other seven initial teams will be in Charlotte, North Carolina; Lexington, Kentucky; Brooklyn, New York; Spokane, Washington; Tampa Bay, Florida; Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Washington, D.C. Another eight markets will join the league either in 2025 or later, and additional markets could be added in the future.

“Soccer is the pathway to community for many families. Dallas is the perfect backdrop for our expansion, growth, and community to grow wings,” said Dallas Trinity FC CEO Jim Neil in the release.

The decision to launch a professional women’s soccer team in Dallas was because of the city’s “rich history and promising future surrounding girls soccer,” the release said.

Dallas is home to the county’s first all-girls soccer club—the Dallas Sting—and hosts the Dallas Cup, which is one of the most prestigious youth soccer tournaments in the county.

Charlie Neil, the team’s president, called Dallas the “best sports business city in the country” and said it was the perfect time to bring a professional women’s soccer team to the city.

The team definitely felt the love from many of Dallas’ other professional sports teams on Thursday. Mascots like Rangers Captain, the mascot of the Texas Rangers, attended the unveiling and repped some of the team’s new gear.

People interested in watching Dallas Trinity FC take the field in the historic Cotton Bowl Stadium can put a deposit on season ticket memberships.
