AUSTIN, Texas — Softball has always been a part of Rylee Slimp’s life. That comes with having a dad who is also a coach. She started playing when she was about 4 years old.

“He’s coached me ever since I was little and been my biggest supporter,” says Slimp. “He’s definitely had a big impact on my softball career.”

Slimp’s softball career took off a few years ago when she joined the varsity team at Liberty Hill High School her freshman year.

“I’ve always had a love for it, but that’s when I decided I wanted to take it into college and play D1 softball,” says Slimp.

Slimp has been an all-district performer every year for the Panthers and was the district MVP last season. She became one of the top-ranked prospects in Texas, earning offers from major colleges like Tennessee, Georgia and Oregon. Ultimately, she chose her dream school and signed with UCLA.

“I didn’t ever see it being a reality because it’s such a prestigious program,” says Slimp. “I think it’s probably the perfect place for me. I’ve always lived in Texas and love Texas, but I wanted to branch out and see different things, and I think LA is a great place for that.”

Before Slimp heads out to the West Coast, she’s trying to help Liberty Hill go on a deep playoff run. The Panthers won the district title and have been one of the top teams in Central Texas all year.

“I wouldn’t want to finish my high school career with any other team because I love these people and I love the coaches,” says Slimp. “I’m excited for the playoffs to see how far we go.”

Slimp hopes to have continued success playing the sport she loves and using it as a platform to follow in the footsteps of her idols.

“Seeing these women in college and being amazing athletes and amazing people knowing that myself, that’s where I wanted to push to be,” says Slimp. “That’s really motivated me throughout the years.”

She added she also finds motivation from her parents and wanting to do this for them because they’ve all shared in the dream of her playing softball at the next level.
