BASTROP COUNTY, Texas — Dashboard camera footage released on Thursday shows the moment a concrete truck veered onto the opposite lane and collided with a Hays CISD school bus on March 22, causing it to roll over.
The bus was carrying 44 pre-K students and 11 adults from Tom Green Elementary in Buda who were returning from a field trip to the Bastrop County Zoo.
One child traveling in the bus and one adult traveling in a separate vehicle behind the bus died in the crash and dozens more were injured.
The victims were identified as 5-year-old Ulises Rodriguez Montoya, a student at Tom Green Elementary, and Ryan Wallace, a PhD student at The University of Texas’ School of Journalism and Media who was weeks away from defending his dissertation.
Classes were canceled at Tom Green on Monday to provide trauma counseling and mental health services to students.
A GoFundMe account for those affected with a goal of $100,000 has raised $95,429 as of Thursday.
