AUSTIN, Texas — Police identified the deceased driver that crashed into the St. David’s North Austin Medical Center emergency room Tuesday evening.
According to the Austin Police Department, the driver was 57-year-old Michelle Holloway.
Five other people were injured during the crash.
APD stated that this didn’t seem like an intentional attack and they’re fairly certain Holloway wasn’t suffering a medical emergency when she crashed.
Chief Medical Officer Peter DeYoung said the aquarium inside the waiting room took the brunt of the impact and was destroyed in the crash, potentially saving other lives.
The ER is now back open for emergency vehicles and is using the ambulance bay as an entrance. The damage from the crashed has been walled up.
According to the Austin Police Department, the call about the crash came in at around 5:38 p.m. According to Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services, four of the five people injured were sent to other hospitals for treatment, two adults and two children. One adult had serious potentially life-threatening injuries and one child had critical injuries. The other two victims had non-life-threatening injuries, said Capt. Christa Stedman of Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services.
Eight other patients were already at the hospital and had to be transported from the hospital because the hospital wasn’t able to treat them after the crash.
Police said this is an ongoing investigation and the information may change as the investigation progresses.
