SAN ANTONIO — Kingston Flemings remembers playing basketball as a kid. He says he picked up the game when he was just four and would play with his older brother. He wasn’t able to get the ball all the way to the rim, so it forced him to be a passer, which is what he says is his favorite part of the game.

What You Need To Know

  • Kingston Flemings started playing basketball when he was 4

  • Flemings helped Brennan High School reach the state tournament in 2023

  • He is rated as a 4-Star prospect

  • Flemings has offers from colleges such as Houston, Texas, Baylor and Kansas

“Basketball is my love so I keep on doing it,” says Flemings. “Try to get to the pros if I can.”

The little kid who grew up playing the game is now one of the top high school players in the state of Texas. Last season, when he was just a sophomore, Flemings helped Brennan reach the state basketball tournament. The Bears lost a close game in the semifinals to Beaumont United and it has provided plenty of motivation for this season.

“Looking back, you think what if I did this or what if I did that,” says Flemings. “Not wanting to have that feeling again so doing everything we can whenever we play, that’s the main thing that’s the motivation.”

Brennan returned most of their top players from that team and have been playing well this season. Led by Flemings, Camden Cowgill and Isaiah Ward, the Bears are unbeaten in district play and ranked in the top 10 for class 6A.

“When you know everyone on the team, you have something bigger to play for,” says Flemings. “Sometimes all we need is eye contact, where you’re going to go, where you’re going to cut, it makes it way easier.”

The six-foot-two guard has seen his success on the court translate into recruiting interest. Last spring and summer, the offers rolled in from programs like Houston, Texas and Kansas.

“I played some players that had offers and I was like I can play with them for sure,” says Flemings. “In the summer I started blowing up a little bit but it’s not done yet, offers are just offers, they can get revoked if you stop playing well.”

Flemings has plenty of time to worry about which college he will play at. Right now he’s focused on getting Brennan back to the state tournament and helping them finish with a title this season.
