GEORGETOWN, Texas — As soon as Addy Gaido got to high school she was making an impact on the varsity volleyball team at Georgetown High School. She still had a lot of learning to do but her talent allowed her to have early success.
“It was definitely a big change, but I loved it. It was so much more competitive,” Gaido said. “It made me fall in love with the sport even more. I’m grateful for all the experience on varsity because I’m prepared more.”
Gaido is now in her junior year playing for the Eagles and is one of the upperclassmen on the team.
“I’ve definitely developed that leadership role this year,” Gaido said. "I’m not naturally the biggest leader. I like to keep the team happy and I’m not great with disciplining, but I’ve stepped into that role this year.”
She has already accomplished a lot at the high school level. Gaido recently went over 1,000 kills for her career. Her success has meant a lot of attention in the recruiting world and she got offers from some of the top programs in the country.
“It’s crazy. I’ve talked to so many D1 coaches and it’s a regular thing but so overwhelming and crazy,” she said. “I just feel like a regular little girl.”
As she got deeper into the recruiting process one school stood out and she was confident in her decision to commit to Texas.
“Texas checked all my boxes,” Gaido said. “There’s an amazing staff, amazing players, their culture is amazing and obviously a winning program. The university is close to home so it’s perfect.”
Gaido has put in a lot of work to get to this point and have these opportunities. She’s motivated to commit herself to volleyball and see how far it takes her.
“The love for my sport and the love for competitiveness and winning,” Gaido said. “It’s what I’ve wanted to do my entire life and want to keep doing as long as possible.”
