GARLAND, Texas — An explosion and resultant fire rocked the Sherwin-Williams paint plant in Garland, Texas, early Monday morning.

It happened about 1:15 a.m. at the facility, which is located at 701 South Shiloh Road.

The fire was put out after a few hours. It’s not yet known what caused the explosion. However, Sherwin-Williams primarily produces paints, coatings and floor coverings for industrial and residential customers.

According to CNN, at least one factory worker was injured. That worker was taken to a hospital but has since been released.

Production at the plant has been suspended for the time being. An investigation will be conducted.

“Me and my coworker were processing orders and all of the sudden the whole building shook,” said Dave Casper, a witness who works near the Sherwin-Williams plant. “It shook, and some of the particles from the ceiling started to come down on us.”

“We went outside, we walked around the building, thinking something might have hit the building,” Casper continued. “We went behind the building, saw this big explosion happening at the Sherwin-Williams plant.”

A spokesperson for Sherwin-Williams told CNN an environmental assessment will be conducted at the site once fire officials allow access.
