TEXAS — Marvin Mims Jr. was a walking highlight reel at Oklahoma.

"I'm a guy that can do all things on the football field," Mims said. "Route running, deep game, short, intermediate screen game. And big play ability, that’s definitely my thing.”

What You Need To Know

  • Frisco, Texas, native Marvin Mims Jr. could be picked on the second or third day of the NFL Draft

  • He set Texas' high school career receiving-yards record, 5,485

  • At Oklahoma, he was a walking highlight reel

  • In 2020, he became the first Oklahoma receiver to earn FWAA Freshman All-American honors

Tools that he will bring to the team that picks him in the 2023 NFL Draft.

“Now it's more nerves. This thing is winding down and at the end of the month, I'm gonna be somewhere just ready to play for that team," Mims said.

It's a future that didn't cross his mind until he was starting at receiver as a freshman for the Sooners. He earned freshman All-American honors that season.

“That's when I really started thinking about going to the NFL, and doing what I can to get there,” Mims said.

The Frisco native is staying ready for his draft moment by working out with Margin Hooks, the trainer who's been by his side for years.

“Just seeing some of the plays he made naturally in high school and college, it was easy to visualize this kid making the NFL," Hooks said.

Hooks is a former NFLer himself. He's been perfecting Mims' craft since Marvin was a sophomore in high school.

“Helped me tremendously. A complete transformation," Mims said. "It's ridiculous, just the stuff he's done for me. He's really just crafted me up.”

Hooks said what separates Mims from others is his commitment to the process of improving, along with his mental composure.

"He's always been an even-keeled kid," Hooks said. "His emotions don't get too high up, and they don't get too far down, so he's able to always function at a high level.”

A mentality that Mims has kept during the team visits and Zoom calls with NFL teams throughout the draft process.

"I’m going in there being myself," Mims said. "From a personality standpoint, just being me."

But when Mims thinks about his name being called, that mild-mannered 21-year old is rendered speechless.

"I don't even really know what to say. It's just gonna be a crazy, crazy, crazy moment," Mims said.

A moment that could be the prequel to Mims' first highlight reel at the next level.

“It's wild. It's something I could never imagine,"  Mims said. "You just gotta look back and just be thankful for everything you've been through, all the people that have been there in your corner.”
