FLOWER MOUND, Texas — Ashton Cozart always wanted to play football as a kid in San Antonio.

He finally got the chance as a middle schooler in the Seattle area, and the rest is history.

Cozart and his family moved back to Texas in 2020, where the Marcus High School receiver has developed into one of the state’s best pass catchers.

“I wasn’t always the most athletic. I wasn’t the tallest, wasn’t the quickest,” Cozart said. “I just worked my butt off harder than others. It got to the point where I fell in love with working hard.”

He said that work ethic that took his game to another level and helped the transition from Washington state as a sophomore.

“Back in Seattle, I was considered one of the fastest in the state. Here it’s like everyone’s fast,” said the six-foot-three, 190-pound senior. “Here, no matter who you are, no matter how many stars you got, how many offers you got, someone who lines up in front of you is a dog.”

Cozart has been a highly touted recruit for the past two years. He racked up over 30 Division-I scholarship offers and verbally pledged to Oklahoma in February. He then switched that commitment to Oregon in May.

“It was culture, personality, and whenever I went out there to visit at Oregon, it just felt like home,” Cozart said.

Before he takes his talents back to the Pacific Northwest, Cozart said he’s focused on leading the Marauders to a successful season.

“I like scoring touchdowns and I like hearing the crowd. That’s my favorite part of it,” Cozart said. “Nothing is better than catching the ball downfield, scoring a touchdown, and hearing the crowd go crazy.”
