AUSTIN, Texas — The Sinton baseball team made the state tournament last season but lost in the semifinals. They used that defeat to fuel them this year and get them back to the final four. This time they completed the mission and won the 4A state title with a 9-0 victory over Argyle.

“So much emotion goes into this since the end of last year,” says senior catcher Rylan Galvan. “We knew we had the opportunity to come back and finish this thing, that’s exactly what we did. There’s so much emotion and love that goes into this team.”

That team bond goes a little deeper for Rylan, who can share in this championship with his brother, Rene, who is also a senior on this team. The two shared a big hug near second base after the final out of the championship game.

“That’s special, he’s had a lot of ups and downs in his career,” says Rylan. “To see him bust his tail everyday is amazing. I’m so grateful to call him my brother.”

The family support doesn’t stop there for Rylan. He says that his motivation to put in all the effort he does, to be the player he is, comes from the work ethic instilled by his parents.

“See my day wake up every morning and work as hard as he does to put us in the best situation,” says Rylan. “It’s really what’s driven me to go out every day and work as hard as me and my brother do. I’m so grateful to do this for my mom and my dad.”

His hard work not only helped Sinton win their first baseball state title in 20 years, it’s given Rylan a chance to play in college. He signed this year with the University of Texas and will be on the Longhorn baseball team next season.

“Amazing to be able to come here to the 40 acres and play for such a rich tradition,” says Galvan. “It’s everything I asked for.”
