DALLAS — It's no secret that Californians are flocking to Texas. According to U.S. Census data, more than 80,0000 people are moving to the Lone Star state annually from California. While many are choosing to move to Texas for a better livelihood, others say they are leaving their former home state in hopes to live in a more conservative community.

"Most that are conservative are always concerned when Californians come, and so we have to say don't worry we're not going to mess it up, I promise you," said Chris Hurley, a former resident of the greater Los Angeles area.

Hurley and his family left their California home in August of 2021, and are now living in of Frisco, about 30 miles north of Dallas.

"The community has changed," said Hurley. "The neighborly aspect in LA is just not there, it's non-existent."

The family decided to leave the Golden State for good because they say things have taken a turn for the worst when it comes to issues such as crime and homelessness. They say a sharp rise in illicit drug use compounded with more people falling into poverty is driving crime and mental health problems up and COVID-19 has only made matters worse.

"They're not taking care of the taxpayer that lives in the communities," said Hurley. "When you're locked down and with your family members exclusively it made us become aware of well, we can be anywhere in the world with each other. Why LA?"

After a few back and forth visits to Texas, the family decided to turn to Conservative Move, a relocation platform for help. The company specializes in moving people with similar values into the same communities.

"What you see happening right now is certain states have experimented with policies that are completely turning off the electorate, and they are moving to these other states," said Paul Chabot, the founder of Conservative Move. "My goal here is to make sure we do not turn Texas into California, or these other states."

Chabot and his wife started their business in North Texas in 2016 after they too left California for similar reasons as the Hurley's. He's now running for a Texas state representative seat in the same area he's encouraging people to flock to for a better opportunity.

"The way we see it is, if we lose Texas we literally lose the United States of America," said Chabot.

Their business has grown to service not only Texas, but other red states too as they encourage families with similar ideologies to move closer together.

"By our people moving out of these states I think it'll help California and New York because those leaders are going to look as they are today. Why are so many people leaving, and what are we doing that's wrong," said Chabot.
