SAN ANTONIO — Brianna Almaguer has been an integral part of UTSA football’s historic season; however, instead of doing it with a clipboard or shoulder pads, she is doing it as a videographer for the Roadrunners.
“I film the sidelines so that’s to make sure that you have all 22 players in your shot and you make sure you capture the whole play. Nobody gets left out,” Almaguer said. “So then the players and coaches can watch back what they did right, what they did wrong.”
UTSA has done a lot right. They finished the season with an 11-1 record and is now 12-1 after they captured the Conference U.S.A. championship for the first time in program history.
“It’s just like the farther along we’ve gone in the season, the more that it kind of sinks in that we are making history,” Almaguer said. “Every game is historic and it’s just being part of the team now is insane, and I’m so lucky and I’m so happy.”
Almaguer is going to graduate in a few weeks and is ending her collegiate tenure on a high note with a bowl game. Her ties to this football team stem back to her childhood when she attended the first ever UTSA football game in 2011.
“My sister was on the dance team so she got free tickets. I went and I remember I had to cover my ears because it was so loud,” Almaguer said. “Now each game we are getting more and more people.”
She said that is because San Antonio has been looking for that next great sports team to support.
Obviously, the Spurs are number one, but UTSA is right there behind them.
“I really love the way the city is supporting us. I love the city. I love that we are taking talent from the city, that you don’t have to go out to another school to succeed in football,” Almaguer said.
