AUSTIN, Texas — One year after moving to New York, Alaina Vi Maderal got a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
She says finding out about her role as a swing character in "Hamilton" exceeded her expectations.
“[I experienced] a whole wave of emotions. Not only do I get to be performing on stage, but it’s also 'Hamilton,'” Vi Maderal said.
Alaina is a swing character. She understudies an ensemble of five ladies and steps into the show wherever and whenever she’s needed.
“It’s alwasys different,” Vi Maderal says. "There’s eight shows during the week so it can happen at any given moment. You have to be on your feet and ready to go at any different moment.”
The Austin native is proud to represent her Texas roots as the tour hits the state in November.
“I wouldn’t be in this position or doing this show if it wasn’t for the support that I had in Austin,” Vi Maderal said.
With live performances back, her goal is to give people the joy of the arts.
“That’s truly important in our world right now, it’s important how we connect with each other,” Vi Maderal said. “That’s why I truly believe the arts as a whole is something every program out there should have.”
"Hamilton" will be in Dallas through Dec. 5 and will begin in Austin on Dec. 7.
