PFLUGERVILLE, Texas — Bidding wars are happening across Texas, but a new housing community is taking its home-buying process in a different direction.
Neu Community is a first come, first serve community that lets home buyers choose their home of choice without having to worry about being outbid.
“We're not interested in the bidding wars or anything like that,” Mitch Allen the director of finance for Neu Community said. “It was just a question of fairness. There's a lot of bidding going on out there. The market has been really crazy. So our initial inclination was we're going to take a $100 deposit that is fully refundable, but that would kind of get your slot set.”
The deposit puts a person’s name down on a list to reserve one of the modular homes.
“You don't really need a realtor,” Eric Ngo, who just bought one of Neu Community’s one-bedroom homes said. “Think about going on Amazon and buying a house. That’s kind of the experience.”
Since Ngo is single, he chose a one bedroom. The options extend from a studio to a three bedroom home.
Steve Williams who handles partnerships with Neu Community says the homes are like Legos, if Ngo wants to one day start a family, he can add an on a module.
“If you want to add a module, like say you start with this (pointing to a module home at a showroom in Pflugerville), and you want to add two more modules to have a bedroom or say an office space or bigger living area, you can just add on,” Williams said.
According to Neu Community’s website, “Neu homes grow with your family, instead of your family out growing your home.”
Neu Community is developing three communities across Central Texas. The modular homes will be located in Bastrop and Travis Counties. The community in Bastrop is about 20 minutes from the new Tesla factory.
Development is set to start in the fall of 2021. Homes will range from $150,000 to around $1.5 million
Appointments to see one of the modular homes opened in mid June, but reservations are now booked through October.
Walk-ins are welcome on Saturday’s from 1 to 4 p.m. The showroom is located in Pflugerville.
