Jamil Donith joined Spectrum News 1 as a multimedia journalist in February 2021.

After growing up in Oregon and attending the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State, she lived in Minnesota, Oklahoma, and Florida before finally landing in Texas. She is passionate about storytelling, and believes in the power of good journalism. For her, journalism is about bettering the community, holding the powerful accountable, and shining a light on the often unseen and unheard members of society. She believes good journalism can promote an informed citizenry, and that leads to positive change.

Donith’s news career has span over ten years, in which she has countless memorable stories, and won multiple accolades such as awards from The Midwest Broadcast Journalist Association and the Florida Associated Press. One story she is especially proud of was uncovering the staggering unemployment and poverty in the Native American communities of Minnesota. Despite the community’s hesitation around the media, she was able connect with leaders who were working tirelessly to better the path for future generations to bring attention to the systematic issues that continued to hinder opportunities for the community.

Donith is very excited to now be in Austin along with her sister, and being from Oregon, loves the opportunities to explore the great outdoors of Texas. She loves the Austin skyline at night, and enjoys testing all the great taco trucks the city has to offer.
