TEXAS — Texas A&M commit Eriny Kindred is more than just a star on the hardwood. Kindred’s spirit away from the basketball court is what makes her future so bright. Those close to her have high praise for her leadership and ability to think of others.

“She’s someone everyone’s going to be watching - the players, the fans, even my own children. I have three kids and they all look up to E,” says Del Valle head coach Jane Martin.

That leadership was on display when Kindred passed up potential scholarship money to give a teammate the opportunity.

“I figured since I’m pretty much covered and I’m good, that the extra thousand, two-thousand dollars should go to her,” says Kindred.

Her father swelled with pride when talking about his firstborn.

“It makes me feel good because not every child is not in her position. And so many people work hard and don’t get the things that she gets. So the fact that she’s thinking like that and pushing those opportunities to other people - it’s not about being greedy. It’s really truly about being humble,” said Richard Kindred, Eriny Kindred’s father.

But just because she overflows with generosity off the court doesn’t mean she’s particularly generous to the competition on it. She has just about everything in her bag – athleticism, fundamentals, jumper, handle – you name it, she’s got it. She not lacking in confidence, either.

A&M is the future engineering major’s dream school.
