Hays City Donuts has been around for over five years operating along Burleson Street, but many people can't get to it.
It's main entrance and the drive thru are cut off by crews working to repave the sidewalk and the street which is part of a $35 million voter approved road project.
A viral video taped by Mayor Travis Mitchell which encourages the community to support the businesses has been helping get more people through the door.
The business owner says while the shop is hurting now, the construction will eventually work out in the long run.
"Eventually in the future it will be a lot better for us too because more people will come down this way. It's a two lane road so once the construction gets done hopefully people will come through more often," said Vanndie Long of Hays City Donuts.
Mayor Mitchell said he got the idea from a separate post he saw on social media.
“It’s important for the community to know that in times of construction like this it takes community support,” Mitchell said.
