SAN ANTONIO - Meals on Wheels San Antonio, along with H-E-B, gave about 2,000 San Antonio residents turkey during the Thaknsgiving holiday on Thursday.
- 1,200 volunteer drivers
- Lined up outside of nonprofit building Thursday morning
- Meals on Wheels still in need of volunteers
The deliveries to the homebound were part of the nonprofit's annual meal drops.
"They are going all across San Antonio and Bexar County to deliver this holiday cheer," Vinsen Faris of Meals on Wheels San Antonio said.
This year 1,200 volunteer drivers spent the holiday morning on the roadways.
"We have younger kids and we wanted to show them that it's not all about us on Thanksgiving, it's about giving and giving to those we don't know," one driver said.
Many of the cars began lined up around the nonprofit's building off of Northwest Loop 410 Thursday morning. Within an hour, cars packed with families received their meals to take to their client's home.
"It's special on Thanksgivng because I don't know where I'm going to go or whether I'm going to hit the bed," Janie Garza, a Meals on Wheels client, said.
Garza said she is thankful for Heather and Colin Finerghty, who delivered her meal before the Dallas Cowboys game.
"Happy Thanksgiving to all and may you all have a blessed day," Garza said.
Meals on Wheels is still in need of volunteers for their next meal drops ahead of the Christmas holiday. For more information, visit its website.
