AUSTIN, Texas – Whether it is a harmless rat snake or a giant rattlesnake, Mark Nordstrom doesn't have a fear of serpents.

“We had a house right on Walnut Creek, so I spent a lot of my childhood down in that creek catching just about anything that moved down there," Nordstrom said.

Now, he lives in the Circle C neighborhood, where he spends his spare time rescuing his neighbors from unwanted guests.

It all started a little more than one year ago when a woman frantically posted on the neighborhood Facebook page, asking for help dealing with a snake at her house.

"I was more than happy to help, I handed out my number to everybody and now I get calls left and right," said Nordstrom.

He has removed dozens of snakes from people’s porches and doorsteps. Nordstrom now uses a metal grabber on the job, which was a gift from his wife, who didn’t want him catching snakes with his bare hands.

“I usually get just enough pressure to where I know I have him but I’m not hurting him," Nordstrom explained.

Rattlesnakes are pretty common in his neighborhood, so he brings a large plastic container to relocate the snakes. Sometimes, the snakes can get pretty vicious.

“Its mouth opened up and it was spitting venom all over the place, and it was really messy,” Nordstrom recalled.

Next month, the Circle C neighborhood is throwing a party for Nordstrom to thank him for his brave snake rescues. However, he says he has other plans for the celebration.

“They’re calling it a party to honor me, but I want to use it as an opportunity to educate this neighborhood on snakes," said Nordstrom.
