BEE CAVE, Texas – While the country eagerly waits to see if Punxsutawney Phil will see his shadow, down in Texas there is another animal predicting when spring will arrive – Bee Cave Bob.
The southern twist on Groundhog Day, Armadillo Day looks to Bob for the forecast.
For the eighth year in a row, The Benevolent Knights of the Raccoon are presenting Armadillo Day in Bee Cave, located off of Highway 71 at the Hill Country Galleria.
The Lone Star Weatherological Society officiates Bob’s forecast claiming that their extensive research is a more accurate detector of climate data. They say the armadillo acts as a precise predictor of Texas weather as the state’s official small mammal.
Unlike Phil, Bob isn’t looking for his shadow. Instead he will predict the weather by either navigating left or right on a highway stripe that will be placed in front of his burrow.
Guests will be treated to live music, dancing, and a whole lot of food. The event starts at 10 a.m., and food arrives at 11 a.m. Bob will make his proclamation at 12:30 p.m.
The event made national headlines in 2016 when country star Kevin Fowler showed up to say hi to his pal Bob.
Spectrum News will be LIVE starting at 5:30 a.m. from the event on Feb. 2.
