AUSTIN, Texas – Two people are dead after a fiery crash with a semi-truck closing North Interstate 35 Friday morning.

Around 11:57 p.m. Thursday night officers were on I-35 when they witnessed a vehicle burst into flames. Police discovered that while the SUV had stopped on the roadway for an unknown reason it was hit by an 18-wheeler.

Officers said after the collision the SUV ignited in flames for an unknown reason. Investigators are working to determine what cause the vehicle to catch on fire.

The Homicide Unit and Arson Unit are investigating the crash.

The roadway will be shut down at the 5700 block of the northbound I-35 service road diverting traffic to Farm to Market 2222.
