AUSTIN, Texas – The Austin Municipal Court has tested negative for asbestos after the building was closed for two days.

The courthouse was closed after dust rained down on a crew doing maintenance to the ceiling of one of the offices on Wednesday. Asbestos testing began immediately and came back negative on Thursday.

According to officials, the building was built in the 1950s and the city is aware that parts of the courthouse do contain asbestos.

Normal operations will resume on Friday for the Municipal Court.

The city said any fines, fees, or penalties due on Thursday will be given an extension to Friday. Fines can still be paid online, here
