RIO GRANDE CITY, Texas – The slaying of a 22-year-old woman is still unsolved more than two decades later, but investigators are not giving up finding her killer.
The reward to find the person responsible for Laura Guadalupe Guerra’s death has been increased to $6,000. The Texas Rangers, along with the Starr County Sheriff’s Office, are reopening the cold case in the hopes the public can help them find Guerra’s killer.
Guerra was killed on May 23, 1990. Her body was found shot to death at the 1111 block of W. Main Street in Rio Grande City. Investigators believe Guerra was killed at a different location before her body was left in a wooded area near the Rio Motel.
Three days before her body was discovered Guerra was reported missing. While police investigated several leads, her killer has never been found.
A potential witness told police in 1990 someone named Gaston Garza or Mariano might have information about her death. Police are also looking for help to identify this person.
To earn the reward you must call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-252-8477 or the Department of Public Safety’s Missing Persons Hotline at 1-800-346-3243.
