When you think of London, one of the first things that pops into mind is the weather — specifically, the fog.
Interestingly enough, one of the biggest London fog events intertwines with the gruesome serial killer rampage of John Reginald Christie.
The Great Smog of 1952, as it would come to be known, was not widely reported on at the time even as an estimated 12,000 people died due to horrible air pollution combining with a stagnant weather setup that caused the smog to linger for five horrific days.
In her book, "Death in the Air," author Kate Winkler Dawson suggests a government cover-up concealed the dirty details of dangerous air quality all while a murder swept the headlines.
Dawson tells our own Burton Fitzsimmons about the research she undertook to tell the story and also talks about parallels in the news today.
You can see Dawson and many other authors at the Texas Book Festival on the State Capitol grounds this weekend.
