1. Trump takes to Truth Social to call for a primary challenger to Rep. Chip Roy

President-elect Donald Trump took to Truth Social Thursday to call on Texans to consider a primary challenge to Rep. Chip Roy.

Trump wrote in the post, “I hope some talented challengers are getting ready in the Great State of Texas to go after Chip in the Primary. He won’t have a chance!”

2. Testimony of Texas man whose execution was halted in shaken baby case is challenged again

Texas’ attorney general sought again on Thursday to stop a man on death row from testifying to lawmakers who have raised doubts about his guilt and successfully paused his execution at the last minute in October.

A Texas House panel had again subpoenaed Robert Roberson—who was convicted in 2003 of killing his 2-year-old daughter—to appear before lawmakers Friday, which would require a transport from his prison outside Houston.

3. Immigration agency deports highest numbers since 2014, aided by more flights

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement deported more than 270,000 people to 192 countries over a recent 12-month period, the highest annual tally in a decade, according to a report released Thursday that illustrates some of the financial and operational challenges that President-elect Donald Trump will face to carry out his pledge of mass deportations.

ICE, the main government agency responsible for removing people in the country illegally, had 271,484 deportations in its fiscal year that ended Sept. 30, nearly double from 142,580 in the same period a year earlier.
