1. Ken Paxton files lawsuit against the City of Dallas over firearm prohibition at State Fair of Texas

Ken Paxton filed a lawsuit on Thursday against the City of Dallas for prohibiting firearms at the State Fair of Texas.

Paxton issued a warning to the city on Aug. 14. “Dallas has fifteen days to fix the issue. Otherwise, I will see them in court," he wrote. 

2. Texas Tribune: Dan Patrick starts Texas Senate leadership political action committee

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick announced the creation of a new political action committee dedicated to advancing the goals of the conservative majority in the Texas Senate.

The new PAC will be called the Texas Senate Leadership Fund. No money has been received yet, said Allen Blakemore, a spokesperson for Patrick.

3. Texas state representative proposes pushing back start of school year until after Labor Day

State Rep. Jared Patterson, R-Frisco, posted on X, formerly Twitter, calling the opening of schools before Labor Day “an awfully wasteful stress on our power grid.”

Patterson, who is a director of energy services for an energy management company, proposed keeping schools completely closed through July and August to save public dollars on keeping the school facilities cool during the summer.
