1. Lawsuit filed by ACLU and migrant rights groups challenges Biden’s asylum crackdown
The American Civil Liberties Union, along with various migrant rights organizations, filed a lawsuit on Wednesday challenging President Biden’s crackdown on asylum at the U.S.-Mexico border.
President Biden issued the temporary restriction on asylum claims last week, which shuts off access to asylum protections for some migrants arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border.
The lawsuit also argues that the ban contradicts the asylum statute, which grants migrants the right to apply for asylum regardless of their entry point.
2. Texas Tribune: Amarillo City Council rejects so-called abortion travel ban
After months of debate, the Amarillo City Council rejected a so-called abortion travel ban, championed by statewide anti-abortion activists and certain residents.
The council’s decision made Amarillo the largest conservative Texas city to reject the proposed policy, which would forbid the use of the city’s roads and highways to seek an abortion out of state. Now, a group of residents who petitioned for the ordinance will decide if the issue goes to voters in the Texas Panhandle city this fall.
3. Tatum, Brown help Celtics hold off huge Dallas rally for 106-99 win, 3-0 lead in NBA Finals
Jayson Tatum scored 31, Jaylen Brown had 30 and the Boston Celtics held off a furious Dallas rally to reach the brink of a record 18th championship with a 106-99 victory over the Mavericks on Wednesday night for a 3-0 lead in the NBA Finals.
The Mavs almost pulled off a crazy comeback to avoid the big hole — 13 years after the only other rally to match it in the NBA Finals sparked Dallas' run to its only title against Miami.
