1. SMU’s bowl game, Fenway Bowl, canceled due to COVID outbreak

It’s a major disappointment for the Southern Methodist University Mustangs. Due to an outbreak of COVID-19 among the University of Virginia Cavaliers, the Fenway Bowl is off.

The game had been slated for Wednesday at Fenway Park in Boston, but the announcement came down Sunday that Virginia had to drop out, canceling the game as well as all associated activities.

2. 3 dead, 1 critically hurt in shooting at Texas gas station

Three teenagers were killed and a fourth was critically wounded when another teen shot them at a gas station in the Dallas area over the holiday weekend, police said Monday.

The shooting happened Sunday night in the Dallas suburb of Garland and was captured on surveillance video, the Garland Police Department said. Investigators are still trying to determine a motive.

3. Texans have best rushing game of season in win over Chargers

The Houston Texans had their best rushing game of the year to overcome 16 absences because of COVID-19 and upset the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday to win consecutive games for the first time this season.

Rex Burkhead ran for a career-high 149 yards and two touchdowns playing behind a makeshift offensive line missing three starters to lead Houston to the 41-29 victory. His big day helped the Texans (4-11) pile up a season-high 189 yards rushing.

This garden has an abundance of produce, but who gets it?

Liz Cardinal is a contractor with the Sustainable Food Center. She manages a teaching garden in East Austin at MLK Station Park, just off the Boggy Creek Trail. It recently received a $12,020 grant from the Austin Parks Foundation (APF).

Cardinal plans to put the grant toward improving infrastructure. 

The money comes from the ACL Music Festival Grants Program.
