Today's Big Stories

1. Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick looking to reform impeachment process

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick is requesting state senators to reform the impeachment process.

In his second round of interim charges, Patrick tasked senators to make recommendations to ensure a fair and transparent process. Nearly one year ago, Patrick condemned the Texas House of Representatives over its handling of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s impeachment trial.

2. Mexican cartel leader 'El Mayo' Zambada pleads not guilty to U.S. charges

Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, a powerful leader of Mexico’s Sinaloa cartel, pleaded not guilty Friday to U.S. narcotics trafficking charges in a case accusing him of engaging in murder plots, ordering torture and channeling tons of drugs into the United States.

Participating in a court hearing through a Spanish-language interpreter, Zambada gave yes-or-no answers to a magistrate’s standard questions about whether he understood various documents and procedures. Asked how he was feeling, he said, “Fine, fine.”

His lawyers entered the not-guilty plea on his behalf.

3. Boeing factory workers go on strike after rejecting contract offer

Aircraft assembly workers walked off the job early Friday at Boeing factories near Seattle and elsewhere after union members voted overwhelmingly to go on strike and reject a tentative contract that would have increased wages by 25% over four years.

The labor action involves 33,000 Boeing machinists, most of them in Washington state, and is expected to shut down production of the company's best-selling airline planes. The strike will not affect commercial flights but represents another setback for the aerospace giant, whose reputation and finances have been battered by manufacturing problems and multiple federal investigations this year.

4. ACL announces 2024 vendor list, and tacos will be plentiful and ‘Hot to Go’

The Austin City Limits Music Festival is making its annual return to Zilker Park next month, and while singers like Chappell Roan, Chris Stapleton and Dua Lipa will be center stage, the choice of what to eat will be top of mind for hungry music lovers.

ACL released its full list of food vendors ahead of the festival kickoff next month, and a main theme of the list is, of course, Tex-Mex and tacos.
