1. Texas Winter Storm 2023

A widespread winter storm is affecting almost the whole state of Texas. Spectrum News 1 has all of the information you need, from Dallas and North Texas, to San Antonio and the Rio Grande Valley, to the Texas State Capitol in Austin. 

2. Thousands of Austin Energy customers without power Wednesday

Austin Energy, as of 5:16 p.m. Wednesday, reported 839 active power outages with 160,421 customers affected. That means a little less than 30% of customers were without power Wednesday afternoon. The outages were attributed to downed power lines caused by trees and branches that succumbed to ice. 

The majority of the outages appeared to be west of Interstate 35.

3. At Tyre Nichols' funeral, VP Harris, Rev. Sharpton call for Congress to pass police reform

Tyre Nichols was laid to rest Wednesday in a ceremony held at the Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church in Memphis, three weeks after he died following a brutal beating by police after a traffic stop in early January.

The Rev. Al Sharpton, founder and president of the National Action Network, delivered the eulogy Wednesday, and invited Vice President Kamala Harris onstage for a surprise address. 

4. Texas schools to close due to severe weather

As freeze warnings come in across Texas, many schools have announced closures due to the weather.

It looks like the winter storm that has gripped much of Texas will stick around for at least another 24 hours. H-E-B is adjusting Wednesday and Thursday hours at some of its locations as roadways remain dicey. 

All H-E-B stores and hours remain the same as usual unless listed.
