1. House opens investigation into Uvalde mass shooting

The Texas House investigation of the mass shooting at Robb Elementary opened on Thursday morning, with Chair Dustin Burrows saying most of the committee’s work would be done in closed session.

Speaker Dade Phelan, unhappy with conflicting information coming out of the Uvalde investigation, appointed the three-member committee on June 3.

2. Recent polls, open letters show growing appetite for gun reform

There has been a growing chorus of calls in recent days for stricter federal gun laws, including from some conservatives.

Just this week, there have been at least two open letters, with about 1,100 signatures in total, calling on Congress to pass gun control legislation.

3. Texas woman known as ‘Baby Holly’ identified 40 years after parents’ slaying

After 40 years, the daughter of a deceased couple has been located and identified by Texas Attorney General Paxton’s Cold Case and Missing Persons Unit.

Two dead bodies found in 1981, who were apparent victims of a homicide, were identified last year using genetic genealogy. The two were identified as Florida couple Tina Gail Linn Clouse and Harold Dean Clouse Jr. After their families were notified, they wanted to find the couple’s infant daughter, Holly, who was not found with the remains of the Clouses.

4. Teslas with Autopilot a step closer to recall after wrecks

Teslas with partially automated driving systems are a step closer to being recalled after the U.S. elevated its investigation into a series of collisions with parked emergency vehicles or trucks with warning signs.

Uvalde superintendent says district to hire more police

The superintendent of the Texas school district where 19 students and two teachers were fatally shot said Thursday that the district will hire more police officers in the fall but released no information about the investigation.
