1. Biden meets with top Democrat leading gun reform negotiations

President Joe Biden on Tuesday met with the top Democratic senator trying to craft a compromise on gun safety legislation, the White House announced, as senators on both sides of the aisle appear optimistic about the prospect of a bipartisan gun reform bill.

2. Proud Boys documentarian to be among first Jan. 6 witnesses

A documentary filmmaker who recorded members of the far-right Proud Boys extremist group as they stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, says he will testify during the first in a series of hearings of the House panel investigating the insurrection.

Nick Quested, a British filmmaker who also witnessed some of the group's planning before the attack on the Capitol, confirmed to The Associated Press that he will be among the witnesses in Thursday night's prime-time hearing.

3. As Elon Musk deal hangs, Texas AG in­ves­ti­gating Twitter over bots

Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Monday announced he may pull out of his $44 billion deal to purchase social media giant Twitter because, according to him, the company won’t disclose information on the number of its spam bot accounts.

Later that day, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced he’s investigating Twitter over the number of its bots, claiming the company may be “misleading Texans.”

4. Texas state representative wants to introduce legislation to ban children from drag shows

State Rep. Bryan Slaton, R-Mineola, plans to file legislation that would make it illegal for children to attend drag shows. 

“Drag shows are no place for a child,” he wrote on Twitter. “I would never take my children to a drag show and I know Speaker Dade Phelan and my Republican colleagues wouldn’t either. I will be filing legislation to address this issue in the new #txlege.”

When he heard gunfire erupt at Robb Elementary School, Arnfulo Reyes told his students to climb under their desks and pretend they were asleep.

But in an interview with ABC News that aired Tuesday, the fourth-grade teacher, who was wounded in the attack, says he now believes those instructions “set them up to be like ducks.”
