Weather Alerts

Winter weather alerts are in effect in the north and northeastern portions of the United States.  These alerts include Winter Weather Warnings, Ice Warnings, and advisories that run from Minnesota through the Great Lakes to Maine.

Severe Thunderstorm Watches and Warnings will be variable through the evening and overnight hours in the Ohio Valley, as a strengthening cold front will continue to press to the east.

Red Flag Warnings are in effect across west Texas and New Mexico due to gusty winds and very dry air.

High Temperatures Today

Temperatures will stay very warm across eastern parts of the country. Highs will run 10 to 20 degrees above average from the Ohio Valley to the Southeast.  This will work to fuel the developing thunderstorms ahead of the cold front Sunday evening.

Cooler air settles in behind the strong front across the northern half of the Plains and Midwest.

Low Temperatures Tonight

Another very mild night across the country with lows 10 to 20 degrees above average. Overnight temperatures will be significantly warmer than expected to the east and along the east coast.

Cooler air will be prevalent tonight across the northern Plains.

Precipitation Outlook

An active pattern will continue Sunday into Monday with a significant low pressure system moving from the Plains towards the Northeast.

A strong low will bring freezing precipitation and potentially ice into Minnesota, across the Great Lake regions, and east towards Maine.  Travel could potentially be danagerous in these areas until the system continues to press to the north and temperatures begin rising.  Warmer temperatures will change the freezing precipitation into strictly rain.

Ahead of the cold front, potentially severe thunderstorms could range from Indiana south into Louisiana.  All severe weather threats will be viable, to include damaging wind, large size hail, and tornadoes.

This system will continue to find strength as it presses towards the east, setting up continued possibilities for severe weather into Monday along the east coast.
