TEXAS — A resolution to censure Rep. Jasmine Crockett for her comments on Gov. Greg Abbott was introduced by Rep. Randy Weber on Wednesday.
On March 22, Crockett was speaking at a Human Rights Campaign event in Los Angeles when she referred to the governor as “Governor Hot Wheels” and a “hot a** mess,” according to the resolution.
Crockett took to X on Tuesday to say that her remarks weren’t in regard to Abbott’s wheelchair use. “I wasn’t thinking about the governor’s condition—I was thinking about the planes, trains, and automobiles he used to transfer migrants into communities led by Black mayors, deliberately stoking tension and fear among the most vulnerable.”
Weber then responded to her post, saying, “Jasmine…words have meanings & actions have consequences. I look forward to introducing my resolution to censure you for your words and actions.”
On Wednesday, Weber tweeted that he’d formally filed a censure resolution against Rep. Jasmine Crockett.
A 1984 tree-falling accident left Gov. Greg Abbott paralyzed from the waist down, necessitating wheelchair use.
Although it’s a disciplinary measure, censure conveys harsh criticism and disapproval without ousting the person from their role.
