AUSTIN, Texas — There is good news for Texas Longhorn football fans – quarterback Quinn Ewers participated in practice on Tuesday and received first-team reps, according to Orangebloods’ Anwar Richardson.

Ewers stood on the sidelines for the past two weeks after he suffered a non-contact abdominal strain in a win over UT-San Antonio on Sept. 14. Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian confirmed that Arch Manning would make his first collegiate career start against the Universiat of Lousiana-Monroe on Sept. 19.

The Longhorns remained undefeated with Manning in the driver’s seat.

In only his second career start, last weekend, Manning led Texas to its first Southeastern Conference victory with a 35-13 win over Mississippi State.

While filling in for Ewers, Manning completed 70.5% of his passes for 901 yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions.

The Longhorns do not have a game this weekend ahead of its Red River Rivalry matchup against the Oklahoma Sooners on Oct. 12, so Ewers has even more recovery time. According to Richardson’s report, there is speculation that QB1 may take the field at Cotton Bowl Stadium.

In his report, Richardson said he was told, “Quinn is playing [against Oklahoma]. No way he misses this game or the rest of the season. He wants to win the SEC and a Natty.”

Before his injury, Ewers had emerged as a Heisman candidate totaling 691 yards, eight touchdowns and two interceptions in the games he played at the beginning of the season, including a win over defending national champion Michigan.

If Ewers returns as starter against the Sooners, Manning will once again claim the QB2 slot.

The No. 2 ranked Longhorns (5-0, 1-0 SEC) will face No. 19 Oklahoma (4-1, 1-1 SEC) on Oct. 12 at 2:30 p.m. After the Week 7 matchup, the Longhorns will host No. 5 Georgia in Week 8 at Darrell K Royal Memorial Stadium.
