SAN ANTONIO — Christian Saenz was chewing sunflower seeds on his couch when Adolis Garcia was on the plate with the bases loaded. He leaped out of the couch celebrating when Garcia hit a grand slam to give the Texas Rangers a 9-2 lead on the Houston Astros in Game 6 of the ALCS. The Rangers forced a Game 7 in the Texas showdown.

Now, they're headed to the World Series.

“Garcia grand slam 9-2,” Saenz said. “The suit got its magic back, hopefully.”

Christian’s talking about the banana suit he wore in Game 4 of the ALCS when his family sat behind the batters box.

He caught the attention of Major League Baseball and everyone watching all over the world.

This 13-year-old Rangers fan from San Antonio felt like he needed to do something to help his team take a commanding 3-1 lead over the defending champion Houston Astros.

“I said to myself what can be more possibly distracting than the biggest, brightest yellow banana that I’ve seen in my entire life,” Saenz said.

His suit got the Rangers mascot “Captain” to hang out with he and his buddy Mateo Lopez.

Unfortunately for Christian, that game ended in a 10-3 Astros victory and became a viral TikTok by the end of the night.

He says it doesn’t bother him.

“At first I actually thought it was really funny and in the ninth inning, I was really mad,” he said smiling.

For him, this Texas rivalry was real.

“It’s my favorite team versus my most hated team,” Christian said.

He showed up for Game 5, this time, in the outfield.

Captain somehow found Christian in the sea of people.

He even witnessed Mateo catch Garcia’s home run, but the game resulted in another Rangers loss.

“I can’t watch it,” he said lying on the floor at home.

Now that the Rangers are in the World Series, Christian has an idea.

“We should have a stand in Rangers' stadium (Globe Life Field) and call it the banana stand, where everyone should be dressed up as bananas in the stands,” Christian said.
