SAN ANTONIO — Scholar Athlete Maggie Mizell is no stranger to competition. “It’s so gratifying seeing your time go down, competing against other people, passing people in a race — it just shows that the hard work pays off,” she said.

A Churchill High School senior, Maggie’s love for running started early. “I started running track for CYO, just a small league, when I was around 10,” she explained. “Track is the one sport where it’s pure competition.”

An athlete all her life, Maggie’s hard work is paying off. She’s on track to set a school record. While she’s placed well in all of her meets so far, she’s hoping the next ones could be where she gains momentum and breaks that record.

While she admits that balancing sports and school isn’t easy, it’s a challenge she’s risen above. Maggie says that being her class valedictorian is her biggest accomplishment. “I just put my mind to it,” she said. “Through hard work, I was able to do it.”

Maggie’s already setting her sights on her next goal after high school: attending the University of Texas at Austin. “I’m going to the McCombs School of Business there, and I’m super excited,” Maggie said.
