TEXAS — While Texas and the rest of the country have largely moved on from COVID-19, the latest numbers from the Texas Department of State Health Services show the virus is far from done with us.
The state health department on Thursday reported a troublesome 10,627 new confirmed cases of the virus as well as 3,415 new probable cases.
The state reported another 13 deaths attributed to the virus.
As of Thursday, 3,281 Texas patients are hospitalized with COVID, of whom 477 are in intensive care and 168 are pediatric patients. A total 183 Texas patients are currently on ventilators.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention determines COVID-19 risk by county, and the risk levels in some Texas counties bear the numbers out.
Dallas County is currently listed as being at "High" risk. The CDC recommends people there wear a mask indoors in public settings, stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines and get tested if symptoms are present.
Bexar County is also listed as being at "High" risk.
Travis County is currently at "Medium" risk level. It recommended that people there get tested if they have symptoms, stay up to date with vaccines and talk with a health care provider about wearing a mask if at high risk.
