SAN MARCOS, Texas — In the wake of the current omicron-related COVID surge, and citing an abundance of caution, Texas State University has made the decision to hold classes remotely until the end of January 2022.
In a letter from President Denise M. Trauth, the university outlined its plan, which will see the semester beginning as scheduled on Jan. 18, 2022, but with a predominance of classes held online until the end of the month. Those classes that require face-to-face contact for licensure or other issues will be held at the discretion of the deans, academic directors, and/or faculty involved.
The letter goes on to say that Texas State campuses and offices will continue to be open for business, whether or not that will be virtual or in person. Those scheduled to work at Texas State during that time are encouraged to do so remotely, when possible.
In addition, campus housing will re-open as scheduled, and move-in will continue as planned. Citing a letter sent from Trauth’s office on Dec. 27, 2021, all students are requested to be COVID tested within 72 hours of returning to campus, and will be required to show proof of a negative test to return to their on-campus residence. Those who need to schedule such a test can do so via means of the school’s online testing page.
Trauth, finally, via the letter, encouraged all students, faculty and employees at Texas State to follow the CDC guidelines for COVID prevention, whether that be wearing masks, social distancing, or voluntary short-term isolation for those having been exposed to a positive case.
In-person classes are scheduled to return as normal on Jan 31, 2022.
