KEMP, Texas — Kemp ISD campuses are temporarily closed Wednesday, Aug. 25 through Friday, Aug. 27 due to a rise in COVID cases within its area.
Schools are to reopen Monday, Aug. 30. With that in mind, students are not expected to complete instructional assignments during this closure.
According to a release from Kemp ISD’s Superintendent Dr. James Young, “Kemp ISD’s district calendar has additional instructional minutes built in so that students will not be required to make up these three instructional days. Students will not be held responsible for instruction during this closure.”
While extracurricular activities at the junior high are temporarily canceled, the high school’s extracurricular events and practices are still in motion and will be organized by the appropriate head coaches and directors.
Young said Kemp ISD has kept the safety of its students and staff in mind, “taking this time to mitigate the spread of the COVID virus.”
Kemp ISD staff will thoroughly disinfect all district facilities, transportation included. Safety protocols will continue to be followed, Young said.
Although closed, Young confirmed COVID testing will still be available by appointment only. Please contact district nurse Liz Thorne at 903-498-1400 x 2008 or email liz.thorne@kempisd.org
